    From a “retired firefighter” my condolences to the members of all departments and the families. A sadness fills my heart & soul when I heard this morning. I was the fifth generation fireman in my family, serving proudly for 29 years. I know the entire “brotherhood” of Fire Fighters from our Country will bring support and condolences to our fallen brothers families.

    When I am called to duty, God, whenever flames may rage;

    Give me strength to save some life, whatever be its age.

    Help me embrace a little child before it is too late

    Or save an older person from the horror of that fate.

    Enable me to be alert and hear the weakest shout,

    And quickly and efficiently to put the fire out.

    I want to fill my calling and to give the best in me,

    To guard my every neighbor and protect his property.

    And if, according to my fate, I am to lose my life;

    Please bless with your protecting hand my children and my wife

    I want you to know my heart and prayers goes out to the family and friends. I’m sorry about the loss. I may not have know them personally but being close to them in another way and it hits close to home. When a brother goes everyone feels that loss. FF are a close family regardless if you do not know them at all. To the family and friends, just remember you are not going through this alone you have family all over and don’t realize it, but then with you being a FF wife, family, friends you would know how the brotherhood is. My deepest regards. Just remember the firefighters prayer and maybe that will help.

    Psalm 23
    The Lord is my shepard
    I shall not want.
    He makes me lie down in
    green pastures,
    he leads me besides quiet
    waters,
    he restores my soul.
    He guides me in paths of
    righteouness
    for his names sake.
    Even though I walk
    through the valley of the
    shadow of death,
    I will fear no evil,
    for you are with me;
    your rod and your staff,
    they comfort me.
    You prepare a table before
    me
    in the presence of mine
    enemies.
    You anoint my head with
    oil;
    my cup overflows.
    Surely goodness and mercy
    will follow me
    all the days of my life,
    and I will dwell in the house
    of the Lord FOREVER
    With greatest symphathy

    As a former EMS worker for Rowan County I would like to offer my deepest sympathy to all of the affected families and all of the fire companies in this huge tradegy. Each time a EMS worker, firefighter or police officer leaves their family it could be the last time they say “good bye”. They put their lives on the line everyday to serve others. They are always there when the call for help comes in. They do not think twice about the danger that may lay ahead. Please as a community show these families and firefighters respect in their time of mourning. Open up your arms and console each one of them. Each one was involved in one way or another and all off these workers as a family are hurting.

    I want to send our condolences to the families of the two Fallen Fighters. I cant even imagine what the familys are feeling, even as a past firefighter its hard to even think of how these two men have lost their lives. its hard to deal with things like this even if you didnt know them just because we all shared the love of firefighting together its what i call the fireman blood, its what makes us brother an sisters. Its sad to hear of a firefighter getting hurt on duty know matter how minor or how major it is because when you think bout them its great to know when your in trouble they are the ones coming to help. when everyones running out of a firey building, here they come running into that same firey building to rescue the scared an wounded.. may good bless your family

  31. Rodney Smith on March 9th, 2008 3:36 pm

    Was these guys doing a interior attack on the building, and if so why, who was the OIC, they should have never been in the if that was the case. I would have never sent my men in that.

  32. REBECCA & KATIE on March 10th, 2008 3:26 am

    I knew Justin Monroe he was a outstanding fireman, that knew what to do under pressure. When i was in class when my pager went off and i knew something happened. We had a moment of silence for Justin, Victor, and the injured fire fighters. I will never forget 3/7/08, cause I lost 2 heroes.

    A Firefighter’s Prayer

    When I am called to duty, God
    Wherever flames may rage,
    Give me the strength to save a life,
    Whatever be its age.

    Help me embrace a little child
    Before it is too late
    Or save an older person
    from the horror of that fate.

    Enable me to be alert
    And hear the weakest shout
    And quickly and efficiently
    To put the fire out.

    I want to fill my calling
    And to give the best in me
    To guard my every neighbor
    And protect their property.

    And if, according to your will,
    I have to lose my life,
    Please bless with your protection
    My family and friends.
