    I don’t know the fallen firefighters or of those who were injured in today’s fire personally, but as a crime reporter for the Post I’m sure I’ve seen them while out at previous fire incidents. My thoughts and prayers are with their families during this trying time.

My prayers, and those of my church family here, will be with the souls of those who have fallen, the loved ones and dear friends they leave behind, and the brave firefighters who will soldier on even after this. My heart goes out for the fallen men. I pray for all the Firefighters brothers and sisters within that department. I do know how the families of these men feel as for my father a Fire Chief of Sierra City, California passed away just this past year in the line of duty. My thoughts and prayers go out to their families. I don’t know these men but I am praying for these GREAT men who put their lives on the line everyday. As I tell my two young sons everyday that their grandfather was given firefighter wings to help God with any emergency. Please say a prayer for all firefighters today.

    I was a firefighter for over 13 years in a Rowan County Volunteer Department and know the closeness of the brotherhood/sisterhood of firefighters, while I have been out for almost 10 years, I still feel it as strong today as I did back then.

    My heart goes out to the families and the department members from which these guys belonged, my family and I will keep you in our prayers.

    Its mostly a thank-less job and they do put their lives on the lines every day, from the City fire departments to the Volunteer ones, these people are a special breed and I have been honored to know and be a part of it.

    Be safe guys.

  31. Christy T. Leonard on March 7th, 2008 3:29 pm

    As the wife of a firemen, I feel extremely saddened by this loss. These firefighters have a brotherhood that surpasses all others. They risk their lives everyday whether they are career firefighters who are paid who those who volunteer their services! While most folks are at home enjoying a meal, or a family get together without interruptions, these men and women leave the comforts of home at a moments notice to endure all sorts of weather and other situations to assist the needs of others.

    We should thank these Heroes everyday for what they sacrifice for us, not just at a time of loss such as this.

    I will be in prayer for the familys, friends and loved ones of these BRAVE men! God has new ANGELS in Heaven!! Look up and thank them for what they’ve done for us!

    As a firefighter for over 13 yrs and former Chief for 3 yrs most of the general public aren’t aware of the dangers that face each of us in the Fire service as we get in the unit to make a call…it is so sad when one of our own makes the call to never return to home or family…my heartful thoughts and prayers are with the families and to the other firefigters also…it has been said before, but so true, there is a closeness with your fellow firefighters and you do become an extended family to each other…May God be with these families as they try to deal with this tragedy. May God comfort each of you as you try to make sense of your loss.

  47. S. Faries, Charlotte NC on March 7th, 2008 4:34 pm

    I didn’t know either of the firefighters… I have a few friends from highschool in Rowan Co fire departments. However, I lost my brother recently, and the pain is still new after 7 months, I do understand the pain of loss very clearly… a close friend sent me this just after my brothers death, and somehow it helped me visualize life and death. The imagery in it is just beautiful. I thought it might help you with your struggle. God Bless your families, and just know that God has 2 brave angels at his side right now.

    I am standing upon the seashore. A ship at my side spreads her white sails to the morning breeze and starts for the blue ocean. She is an object of beauty and strength. I stand and watch her until at length she hangs like a speck of white cloud just where the sea and the sky come to mingle with each other.

    Then someone at my side says, “There, she is gone.”

    “Gone where?”

    Gone from my sight. That is all. She is just as large in mast and hull and spar as she was when she left my side and she is just as able to bear the load of living freight to her destined port.

    Her diminished size is in me, not her. And just at the moment when someone at my side says, “There, she is gone.” There are other eyes watching her coming, and other voices ready to take up the glad shout, “Here she comes!”

  48. Greg Hulse on March 7th, 2008 4:38 pm

    From a “retired firefighter” my condolences to the members of all departments and the families. A sadness fills my heart & soul when I heard this morning. I was the fifth generation fireman in my family, serving proudly for 29 years. I know the entire “brotherhood” of Fire Fighters from our Country will bring support and condolences to our fallen brothers families.

    “FIREMAN”S PRAYER”

    When I am called to duty, God, whenever flames may rage;

    Give me strength to save some life, whatever be its age.

    Help me embrace a little child before it is too late

    Or save an older person from the horror of that fate.

    Enable me to be alert and hear the weakest shout,

    And quickly and efficiently to put the fire out.

    I want to fill my calling and to give the best in me,

    To guard my every neighbor and protect his property.

    And if, according to my fate, I am to lose my life;

    Please bless with your protecting hand my children and my wife

  60. George R. Chisenhall, Jr. on March 7th, 2008 5:42 pm

    The firefighter stood and faced his God, which must always come to pass
    He hoped his shoes were shining, just as brightly as his brass.

    “Step forward now, you firefighter, how shall I deal with you?
    Have you always turned the other cheek? To my church have you been true?

    The firefighter squared his shoulders and said, “No, Lord, I guess I ain’t
    Because those of us who fight fire can’t always be a saint.

    I’ve had to work most Sundays, and at times my talk was tough,
    And sometimes I’ve been violent, because the streets are awful tough

    But, I never took a penny that wasn’t mine to keep…
    Though I worked a lot of overtime when the bills got just to steep,

    And I never passed a cry for help, though at times I shook with fear,
    And sometimes, God forgive me, I’ve wept unmanly tears.

    I know I don’t deserve a place among the people here,
    They never wanted me around except to calm their fears.

    If you’ve a place for me here, Lord, it needn’t be so grand,
    I never expected or had too much, but if you don’t I’ll understand.”

    There was a silence all around the throne where the saints had often trod
    As the firefighter waited quietly for the judgment of his God,

    “Step forward now you firefighter, you’ve borne your burdens well,
    Walk peacefully on Heaven’s streets, You’ve done your time in Hell.

    We don’t always understand God’s plan for our lives-we simply have to trust him and know that he has a plan for all of us. You are in my prayers and i thank God for all fire fighters. police officers and military persons that are willing to give their lives to save others. May God be with you during this awful time.

  74. Red Ray on March 7th, 2008 7:07 pm

    I just saw the news here in Cookeville, TN and learned the tragic news. God’s blessings to them and their families. I am reminded of the sacrifice of fireman
    by the heading at the Memphis Firefighters Memorial. It states “The Bell Rang and We Answered” Below this quote is the names of their fallen firefighters.
    How true of these men. They put aside their concerns and fears and selflessly
    performed their duties in order to benefit their community. Here is a writing I acquired early in my career:

    Dedicated to those that serve.

    Firefighter Heaven

    The firefighter stood and faced his God
    Which must always come to pass
    Just as brightly as his brass
    “Step forward now, you firefighter, how shall I deal with you?”
    Have you always turned the other cheek?
    To my church have you been true?

    The firefighter squared his shoulders and said
    “No Lord, I guess I ain’t
    Because those of us who fight fire can’t always be a saint
    I’ve had to work most Sunday’s , and at times my talk was
    rough, and sometimes I’ve been violent,
    Because the streets are awfully tough.
    But, I never took a penny that wasn’t mine to keep
    Though I worked an awful lot of overtime
    When the bills got just too steep
    And I never passed a cry for help
    Though at times I shook with fear
    And sometimes, God forgive me, I’ve wept unmanly tears.

    I know I don’t deserve a place among the people here
    They never wanted me around except to calm their fears
    If you’ve got a place for me here Lord, It need not be so grand,
    I never expected or had too much, but if you don’t I’ll understand.”

    There was a silence all around the throne
    Where the saints had often trod
    As the firefighter waited quietly, for the judgement of his God,
    “Step forward now you firefighter, you’ve born your burdens well,
    Walk peacefully on Heaven’s streets, You’ve done your time in hell.”

    Amen

  75. Praying for the familes on March 7th, 2008 7:08 pm

    As I was going to work this morning there were about 5 fire trucks visible from Jake Alexander Blvd. The fire was the #1 topic at the Food Lion Corporate office today. This afternoon an email was sent out that the company is going to hold several events to raise money to donate to the familes and firefighters and to the Red Cross along with stickers for dress down day and many other events. I think it is great that a company steps in and helps the community in a time of need such as this. I want to send my prayers and thoughts to the fallen firefighters and the familes along with everyone that this disater has affected. May God Be With You

  76. Paul R. Griffith on March 7th, 2008 7:21 pm

    As a retired firefighter who will always be a firefighter at heart, my family and I send our condolences, not only to the families of those called Home today in Salisbury as a result of this fire, but also to the Salisbury Fire department and its members- my brothers. The Lord be with all of you. Our sincere and heartfelt prayers go out for you in your time of grief. They were so young and will be missed by everyone. They have gone on to be with their Father in Heaven and He is now the Comforter of your soul. Mr. and Mrs. Paul R. Griffith and family, Louisville, Ms.

    I am just so deeply saddened tonight for both families, but especially the family I know personally, Jim and Shelby Ferrell and Lisa Monroe (Justin’s grandparents and mom). Justin played with my oldest son, Frankie, and was always a good-hearted wonderful boy. I know his family was always so proud of him and we are all just in shock as to how this could happen. Thank God I know the family are very close-knit and have a strong and abiding faith in our Lord…I pray that Justin will send them some comfort from Heaven to let them know he is all right and with Jesus. May God bless your soul, Justin Monroe, and may God shower his mercy and love on the Ferrell and Monroe and Isler families.

    I would like to send my prayers and love out to the families, of our fallen hero’s. I had a chance to get to meet Justin Monroe, he was an outstanding young man. When my nephew was killed in a car wreck this past summer, Justin was one of the first on the sene and tried to revive Sterling with all his might, and even though he could not, he prayed. Justin was a wonderful, christian young man. And I am very honored to have had a chance to met a hero. To the families of both of my hero’s, are prayers are with you.

    My condolences to the fallen brothers. This is the worst thing that anyone of us could face. We as a family know that we could face the ultimate sacrifice each day that we get onto our units to respond to calls. I’ve always been told that it takes a special person to do what we are trained to do. I know what the families of the fallen firefighters are going through as my wife lost her father to a tragic motor vehicle accident in July of 1994. He was a DMV Enforcement Officer that was struck and killed by a tractor trailer. Just remember to keep your heads up, and look to God in this desperate time of need. He may and in my opinion will be the only one to comfort you in this time. Once again my condolences for the fallen and I pray for the best outcome for the ones injured.

    Though I did not know the fallen firefighters personally, I have had the honor of knowing and working with many of the Salisbury Fire Dept while working with EMS. I no longer work for Rowan EMS but for a surrounding agency. My heart went out to everyone involved in todays tragedy, but mostly to the families of the fallen firefighters. As I watched while working today, I recieved many phone calls from my co workers and friends that knew I used to work there. Each and everyone of those persons that phoned me were sad beyond compare. It may have happened two counties away, but we all suffered a great loss today. We will be having a moment of silence at my church on Sunday in honor of the two men who gave their all today and who went home to walk with Jesus. From everyone at Catawba County EMS, our thoughts, hopes and prayers are with you all at the Salisbury Fire Dept. May the Lord be with you all during this time of healing and help you find the comfort and peace that you need to get through this heartfelt tragedy.

    Just a week ago I was honored to be in the presence of Chief Bob Parnell and members of the Salisbury Fire Department for a memorial service for my uncle, Retired SFD Captain M.L. Stone. The ringing of the fireman’s bell signaling the end of the firefighter’s tour of duty was a moment I’ll long remember. Sadly now that ceremony will soon be repeated. God bless you all!

    I personally knew Justin Monroe , we grow up together playing football , and baseball in his grandparents back yard with our friend JP . I remember he always talked about how he wanted to be a firefighter when he grew up . I remember he always said “while everybody else is running out of the fire , I’ll be running in”.Well his dream came true but sadly ended in tragedy,and I just wanted to tell his and the other firefighters family’s I’m sorry for their lose. May the lord be with you in your time of need.

    St. Florian’s Prayer

    Dear God, Through the intercession of our patron, Saint Florian, have mercy on the souls of our comrades who have made the supreme sacrifice in the performance of their duty, and on all who have gone before us after years of faithful discharge of their responsibilities which now rest on ourselves.
    Give us Grace to prepare each day for our own summons to Thy tribunal of justice. Into Thy hands O Lord, I commend my spirit. Withersoever Thou callest me, I am ready to go.
    Merciful Father of all men, save me from all bodily harm, if it be Thy will, but above all, help me to be loyal and true, respectful and honorable, obedient and valiant. Thus fortified by virtue, I shall have no fear, for I shall then belong to Thee and shall never be separated from Thee.

    Amen.

I would also like to express heartfelt thanks to all those brave firefighters that put their lives on the line every day to save others. Thank you and may God be with you now and always. All our men and women firefighters deserve the highest respect from each and everyone of us. In Honor

    Brother when you weep for me
    Remember that it was meant to be
    Lay me down and when you leave
    Remember I’ll be at your sleeve
    In every dark and choking hall
    I’ll be there as you slowly crawl
    On every roof in driving snow
    I’ll hold your coat and you will know
    In cellars hot with searing heat
    At windows where a gate you meet
    In closets where young children hide
    You know I’ll be there at your side
    The house from which I now respond
    Is overstaffed with heroes gone
    Men who answered one last bell
    Did the job and did it well
    As firemen we understand
    That death’s a card dealt in our hand
    A card we hope we never play
    But one we hold there anyway
    That card is something we ignore
    As we crawl across a weakened floor
    For we know that we’re the only prayer
    For anyone that might be there
    So remember as you wipe your tears
    The joy I knew throughout the years
    As I did the job I loved to do
    I pray that thought will see you through

These two Brave heros will be dearly missed but they had served their purpose on this earth and God needed them for a bigger plan that none of us can see here. May God comfort each of you in the families, friends, bortherhood of fire service and EMS and remind each of you that life is precious and remind those that are served by each member that each person serves proudly and freely and with out regret or hesitation when the alarm goes off and that they will remember to say thank you when they see a member of any department in their daily lives. As a mother of a firefigher in training, God bless you and keep you. My prayers are with you in this time of loss and I’m hurting along with you.
    I dropped off flowers tonight, and not to the main station. I just put them where they needed to be.
    My son is hurting over this loss, and I’m just keeping you and he and all of the families covered in prayer tonight.
    Ds had the great joy of talking to Vic on Thursday and they became buddies from the get go. :) Ds had met him before joining the local FF training and they just had a great time talking waiting in line at the bank. Vic encouraged him to keep on with the training and that he was glad that DS was doing it.

    Family and friends of Vic, I’m so sorry for your loss. Your brother and freind reached more people than you know. Some were only to get to know him for a very small amount of time. Some for a greater amount of time.

    Know that Vic touched much more than you know in his ability to reach out to other people and make them feel like they were the first person he’s ever met. :)

    DS will be attending the processional before the funeral and will be wirh his station house. We will be standing watch on the street on the way. We will be by your side, not in sight, but in prayer and in a silent tribute to your family. I wish there was more that I could do, but I can pray that you all have peace and comfort tonight in the middle of greiving. My prayer is for peace and comfort for you directly from God Himself in this time.

    God bless you all,

    My heart goes out to the families, comrades and friends of the fallen firefighters. I like to think that Justin Monroe and Victor Isler were greeted in Heaven by all the firefighters who walked this earth before them and the scores of people through the years whose lives, homes and property they helped to protect. My wish is that from this day forward, the sound of a siren will cause us to pause and say a prayer for the firefighters, paramedics/EMTs, rescue personnel and law enforcement officers and all those who love them.

    For our own reasons, we do this because we love it, Fire Service or Emergency Medical Service, whether Career or Volunteer. This isnt a “just a paycheck job”, its what we live for. When one of our own anywhere in the world is hurt or falls to the monster, we all feel the pain. My sincerest sympathys go out to the Isler and Monroe familys, the Salisbury FD family, and to all our brothers and sisters in the fire service for their loss.

    Sincerly,

    A Fireman’s Prayer

    When I am called to duty, God, Whenever flames may rage;
    Give me strength to save some life, Whatever be its age.

    Help me embrace a little child Before it is too late
    Or save an older person From the horror of that fate.

    Enable me to be alert And hear the weakest shout,
    And quickly and efficiently To put the fire out.

    I want to fill my calling And to give the best in me
    To guard my every neighbor And protect his property.

    And if, according to my fate, I am to lose my life,
    Please bless with your protecting hand
    My children and my wife.

    Just Another Day In EMS

    I delivered a baby on the ambulance gurney;
    I baptized a newborn whose life ended before it began.

    I hugged a frightened child;
    I was kissed by an intoxicated old man.

    I held the hand of a teenage girl as she delivered a 3-pound baby;
    I listened to the mournful squeak of a stretcher being wheeled to the morgue.

    I gently stroked the fragile hand of a 102 year old woman;
    I hesitated at the outreached hand of a 300 pound prisoner in handcuffs.

    I trudged for 10 hours in my boots;
    I had a teenager vomit on those same boots.

    I rubbed the feverish body of a 14 year old cancer patient;
    I cradled the ice-cold hand of a child hit by a car.

    I was referred to as “an angel of mercy;”
    I was called every four-letter word in the book.

    I always see fear in people’s eyes;
    I never see joy or relief.

    I listened to a tormented voice pleading for the preservation of life;
    I heard the threatening words of one bent on self-destruction.

    I spoke with the girl who was hoping she had the flu, not a pregnancy;
    I see innocent people hurt or killed by a drunk driver, and the drunk driver is never hurt.

    I marveled at the genius of a cardiologist;
    I saw a 12 year old boy who shot himself in the head, and the gun was still loaded at his feet.

    I talked in circles with a schizophrenic person;
    I was horrified at the battered body of a child whose parents were incapable of love.

    I gazed at a horribly burned body;
    I shuddered at a cold water drowning.

    I see women beaten up by their spouses, but they never press charges;
    I walk into houses and do CPR with family watching over my shoulder in tears.

    I arrive at serious auto accidents, and the first words I hear are, “Am I going to die?;”
    I find out hours later they did die.

    I listen to the repeated question, “Why?” from a family devastated by death;
    I search my soul for the answers to their question.

    This is just another day in EMS.

    My prayers go out to the families and friends of the 2 fallen firefighters that died in the Mill fire yesterday. As a new member of a local department, you sometimes don’t understand the brotherhood until you are in it. You feel the loss as you would a family member. My heart goes out to you in this difficult time.

    WHAT IS A FIREMAN?

    He’s the guy next door – a man’s man with the memory of a little boy.

    He has never gotten over the excitement of engines and sirens and danger.

    He’s a guy like you and me with warts and worries and unfulfilled dreams.

    Yet he stands taller than most of us.

    He’s a fireman.

    He puts it all on the line when the bell rings.

    A fireman is at once the most fortunate and the least fortunate of men.

    He’s a man who saves lives because he has seen too much death.

    He’s a gentle man because he has seen the awesome power of violence out of control.

    He’s responsive to a child’s laughter because his arms have held too many small bodies that will never laugh again.

    He’s a man who appreciates the simple pleasures of life - hot coffee held in numb, unbending fingers – a warm bed for bone and muscle compelled beyond feeling – the camaraderie of brave men - the divine peace and selfless service of a job well done in the name of all men.

    He doesn’t wear buttons or wave flags or shout obscenities.

    When he marches, it is to honor a fallen comrade.

    He doesn’t preach the brotherhood of man.

    He lives it.

    As someone who grew up in a firefighter’s family, became one for 32 years, raising a son who hopes to embark into a career as one, and deal daily with my customers who are firefighters, it really hurts all of us when this happens. BUT, we keep the passion for it because of a fulfillment in life as “doing good for our fellow man”. We are the folks who are there for the community,day in and day out, taking little or no credit, making the sacrifices.. and without fanfare making the difference. Sadly, the only time there is celebration and fanfare is when someone gives it all.. God bless the families and friends who helped these two fulfill their dreams of making a difference and lets celebrate their transfers//

    I dont even know where to begin…My heart, thoughts and prayers are with the Family’s of the Fallen Firemen. Everyday, I drive past the Salisbury Fire Station, not realizing the job that you have to do. When I heard of the 2 men who had passed away, words cant describe the pain I felt. I will now look at that Fire Station and every Fire Station in a different way…I want to give my Thanks to each and everyone of you who have that hard job and put your life on the line to save another. I RESPECT you so much. The 2 men are now Angels in Heaven, so when you are fighting that next fire, dont fear it…know that they are standing strong and tall by your side, fighting that fire with you. May God Bless all the Family’s and Friend’s who are mourning the loss. I will keep you and them in my prayers.

  154. Winston-Salem Rescue Squad on March 8th, 2008 9:29 am

    Every day we enter our jobs understanding the inherent dangers we face every day to help save others properties and lives. But like so many others that do this we do it for the passion and love rather than the thanks or pats on the back. The breed of humans that make up public safety members is so rare that it makes the bond between us all very tight. It makes a second family that even at your worst is willing to step up and give it all to help you when in need. Our hearts are broken to hear such a loss in this community and our prayers go out to their families. God placed public safety workers on earth as guardian angels of the community and these two angles have completed their duties here on earth. We all hope that we never have to make the ultimate sacrifice in our jobs but as the verse that so many firefighters carry close to them say: John 15:13 “Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends.” You know as I said we hope to never face this fate as we all are either brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, sons, daughters, mothers, fathers, even grandparents that we do not want our families to face the pain and anguish of the knock on the door. But that is what even makes our families special that they stand behind us 110% and never second guess why we choose to live a life such as this. So just remember we stand behind our fallen and their family and will keep you all in our prayers! God bless.

    I feel great sympathy and sorrow for the Firefighters families, who lost their lives in this terrible event. I regret never having had the opportunity to meet either of them. I lost my 17 year old son Sterling Herring this past summer to an accident on Long Ferry Rd and it was the Miller Ferry unit that responded.

    Yesterday morning, was unusual. I stood with one of Sterling’s close watching the flames and smoke rise into the air. As I stood there, I had no idea at the time that there had been a lose of life. The wind was blowing south and there was a thick black cloud of smoke that hovered over our heads as we watched. I told Sterling’s friend standing next to me that Sterling was there, I could feel his prescence. My thoughts of Sterling’s spirit being prescent seemed random and out of place at the time.It was not until later that afternoon that I learned about the tragic loss of life and who it was, I had no idea at the time when I had made this statement. Yesterday afternoon, as I learned information about the firefighters who lost their lives, it all came together and made sense. Justin I was told had tried with all his might to rivive my son at his accident. Sterling’s spirit with out a doubt was there and he was there to welcome the souls of those who were there for him when he passed. I woke this morning thinking of what the families must be going through, especially Justin’s mother, the loss of a son at such a young age, my heart goes out to his mother and father. and also to the family of Victor Isler. These men were both heroes and angels heaven sent. They died doing what they loved. God just needed his angels more. I am sure that God has even greater plans for them now.

  167. Charles M Greene on March 8th, 2008 11:09 am

    On Friday, the reality of a firefighter’s life took place in Salisbury. All firefighters’ and their families live each day knowing that the reality is “their firefighter may not come home at the end of his or her shift.” Will that quick kiss on the cheek, the pat on the head of a small son or daughter, the words see you in 24, or that wave from the driveway as a firefighter leaves home, be the last thing you remember when the phone rings or the Fire Chiefs car shows up in that same driveway, notifying you of the tragic events that have taken your firefighter from you?

    A firefighter’s dedication to the oath he or she takes when they pin on that badge. The duty they feel to go above and beyond regardless of the cost is one that’s hard to explain. Often innocently that dedication becomes a part of every firefighter’s family. When asked, a firefighter’s family will proudly say “My Daddy, My Husband, My Son or My Daughter is a firefighter.

    As a retired fire Chief with over 30 years on the job, and one whose department suffered a line of duty death in 2002. We know how the Families of the fallen firefighters are hurting. I truly understand the emotions and feelings that each Salisbury Firefighter is trying to deal with as they work to make sense out of what has happened to their fellow firefighters and the department they love.

    Our thoughts and Prayers are with the families of Firefighters Victor Eisler, Justin Monroe, the Firefighters that were injured, Fire Chief Robert Parnell and the Firefighters of Salisbury Fire Department.

    Your fellow Firefighters sand with you. May god bless you with his guiding hand.

    I would like to send my prayers out to my brothers and sisters there in Salisbury. As a former member of that department I can tell you that the men and women there are some of the best friends a person could have. I love you all, and God will see us all through this. I send a special prayer to my brothers families.

    I would like to send my condolences and sympathy to the Salisbury Fire Departments, the families of the Fallen FireFighters - Victor and Justin, and the families of the injured.
    I didnt know either of the Fallen FireFighters but do have friends that work there in Salsibury. I know they’re going thru a tough time. My heart and prayers go out to everyone.
    I lost a 19 yr FireFighter friend several weeks ago. He lost his life in a wreck responding to a call. And that was tough. So young and was so devoted.

    Stay Strong

    I knew when I drove by and seen the flames it was a day for prayer. We never stop to think about the entire world who gets up every morning to help someone by protecting us or trying to save us or just holding our hands to help us through. Yesterday was very different I can’t begin to feel the pain that the families are feeling at this time of need. Whether you are a mother,father,friend,fellow firefighter, or a individual that hears this news, I think we all felt an emptiness and sadness yesterday. We are all brothers and sisters no matter what. Our prayers are with you and your families. We wish there was something we could do or say to make it better but we can’t. We can continue to pray and mourn right beside you. I think this has opened a lot of eyes, ears and hearts in the entire United States and even beyond.
    I said to my husband last night that I know neither of those men got up and left home thinking they would never come home. They selflessly went and did what was asked. For the other families of those who were injured,may God help you through this trying time and help to heal all wounds inside and out.

    A United Family

    The days come and the days go
    but the memories are forever with us.
    May the United Family be the hand you need to hold,
    the shoulder you need to cry on, and the strength to move forward.

    We can’t let you down we must hold you up,
    until your strong enough to walk again.
    The United Family we are
    and God will help you see
    the shinning star.

    An angel above an Angel down here
    When ever we need them they show no fear.
    United Families we all have pain,
    but we need to go to our families and say,
    God was here yesterday and is here today
    so may we all bow our heads and pray.

    Dear God in Heaven,
    Please help these families to come to you for support
    and love that they will need.
    Let these families and friends rest at night
    and live without fear
    for they have lost someone near and dear.
    Please take their hearts
    and help them heal.
    Please make them stronger
    and give the will to make it.
    It is never easy when one goes home to be with you,
    but you will make it possible for them to remain
    in heart,mind, and soul here on earth
    to continue to guide and help those in need.

    May God keep you safe and bless your family,
    Continuous thoughts and prayers are sent you way,
    The Mitchell Family

    I had the honor of knowing Justin Monroe and he was one of the finest young men I have ever known. His smile, eyes and his laughter will be greatly missed.

    To the Monroe and Isler families…please know that you are not alone during this horrible time. You have the entire community behind you!! Also know that God surely welcomed both of these fine men into heaven with a huge pat on the back.

    Thank you for your service, Justin and Vic!!

    “A Fireman’s life” It may take you two minutes to read this, but if you do NOT take the time to read this you are one of the PEOPLE this post is TALKING ABOUT. You stay up for 16 hours He’s been up for 48 straight You take a warm shower to help you wake up. The rain in the middle of the interstate keeps him awake. You complain of a “headache”, and call in sick. He’s chilled to the bone, hasn’t eaten all day, has the flu, and then runs into a burning building You drink your coffee on your way to the mall. He pumps on a five years olds chest on the way to the hospital. You make sure you’re cell phone is in your pocket. He makes sure the pass device on his pack is working. You talk trash about your “buddies” that aren’t with you. He watches his buddy fall through four floors. You walk down the beach, staring at all the pretty girls. He walks down the highway looking for the motorcyclists missing limb. You complain about how hot it is. He wears fifty pounds of gear in the middle of July and drags a body out of 1600 degree flames. You go out to lunch, and complain because the restaurant got your order wrong. He hasn’t seen a meal since last shift ate breakfast. Your maid makes your bed and washes your clothes. He’s worn the same stinking, wet, grungy clothes for the past 24 hours….no time for a shower. You go to the mall and get your hair redone. He holds the hair of some college girl while she’s puking in the back of the ambulance. You’re angry because your class ran 5 minutes over. His shift ended 2 hours ago and he on for another 24 hours at a station thirty miles away. You call your girlfriend and set a date for tonight. He calls his girlfriend to tell her he made it back alive….then leaves abruptly for another fire. You YELL and SCREAM at the engine that just past you because they SLOWED you down. He’s in the back of the engine, going to cut somebody out of their car only to find out that their dead and their daughter is barely alive. You roll your eyes as a baby cries. He cries as he hears his new born cry in the hospital….but he was taking a drunk teenager in when his boy was born. You criticize your FIRE DEPT. and say their never there quick enough anyway. He blows the air horn while the person in front of them REFUSES to MOVE while talking on their cell phone and doing their makeup . You hear the JOEKS about fallen firefighters and say they should have KNOWN BETTER. He feels the floor give way while he’s carrying an old lady from her bedroom and tosses on to the hard floor and falls into the unknown. You see the bright lights when you go by. He sees the broken bodies lying around the car. You are
