It’s fun to stay at the YMCA

Original Cannon Memorial YMCAWhen the Village People wrote that song, I wonder if they realized how wildly popular it would be at karaoke bars, bar and bat mitzvahs, and weddings across the United States?

Every time I hear that song, I think about the publicity they gave local YMCA and wonder what they were thinking when it was written. I wonder if one of the members had a great experience at the YMCA and they wanted to share it with the world, or if it was just something catchy to sing about. I like to think it was the story, just begging to be told.

Now that the Kannapolis YMCA is celebrating 100 years in our community, we want to know your YMCA stories and experiences. What makes you want to stay at the YMCA? Let us know by posting your experience below.

    Kannapolis would not be the same without the YMCA. The same thing now makes me want to stay at the YMCA as 30 years ago. The staff and their members!
