Landis OKs water, sewer bonds

LANDIS — The board of aldermen pushed the necessity for more than $6 million in water/sewer bonds and it seems the voters agreed, approving the bonds Tuesday. Landis voters were asked on the ballot to approve a $6.7 million bond. Of that, the town will spend $4.5 million on its water system and $2.2 million on its sewer system. Just more than 90 percent of those voting approved the water bonds and about the same percentage approved the sewer bonds. The bonds will go toward replacing outdated water...

Cleveland The incumbents were re-elected Tuesday night, with Mayor James A. “Jim” Brown claiming a seventh, two-year term as mayor with 52 votes. He ran unopposed. Commissioners Mary Frank “Frankie” Fleming-Adkins and John C. Bradford were both re-elected to third, four-year terms. Bradford led the ballot with 52 votes or 39 percent of the total followed by Fleming-Adkins with 49 votes or 37 percent. Leonard Maxwell “Max” West, in his first bid for political office, had 33 votes or 25... 

China Grove voters OK mixed drinks, Bringle as mayor

By Jessie Burchette Salisbury Post CHINA GROVE — Voters approved mixed drinks while re-electing Mayor Don Bringle for a second term. In the eight-candidate race for the Board of Aldermen, voters picked newcomer Lee Withers and Ron Overcash, who served terms in the 1990s. Wining and losing candidates hailed the passage of the mixed drink referendum, saying it will help with economic development and the town’s tax base. The vote was 341 for mixed drinks with 218 against. It’s uncertain if any... 

Five incumbents cruise in Salisbury voting

By Mark Wineka Salisbury Post Salisbury voters, apparently content with the city’s direction, returned all five incumbents in Tuesday’s election. For the sixth consecutive Salisbury City Council election, Susan Kluttz ( 2,033 votes) led the ticket and businessmann Paul Woodson (1,826) came in second. They were followed by William “Pete” Kennedy (1,763), Bill Burgin (1,713) and Mark Lewis (1,564). Kluttz said after Tuesday’s vote was counted she would be willing to serve an 11th and 12th...

With voting complete, results from Tuesday’s election show that Landis voters overwhelmingly supported the water/sewer bonds, China Grove voters approved allowing liquor by the drink and Salisbury’s incumbents can get ready to begin their next terms in office.
